Week 20
A mixed bag
ALL my first pumpkin seeds were stolen - probably by mice! Another lesson learned! Added to the "too cold, for too long" lesson and the "too much rain" lesson of the past 2 years.
We were away for 3 days at the weekend and came back to find that everything had grown - the beech trees, the start of the oak leaves... and my sheltered pumpkin seeds. Now a week later and they are still going OK, although I need to get some snail pellets!
Replaced the drink water pump on the boat - much easier than I had been imagining for the last two years!
A fisherman's tale
One of our clients often goes fishing, including international fishing competitions, no less.
He sent this photo from a competition during the week. At first glance, I thought it was a motorbike jumping over their fishing spot on the canal...
If you look closely, you can see that the thing that looks like a padlock is actually a basket carrying people underneath a hot air balloon!
Health Matters!
I had to have a few tests during the week - and all good news! Suffice to say that I continue to be impressed with the health care system here - and of course, the people who work in it. I've joined the ranks of the "pill-poppers", but it could have been worse, I guess.
Marrekrite
I have mentioned this group before: they provide 1000's of moorings in Friesland for recreational boaties. In the newspaper was a story about how they are making aerial photos to determine which are the most or least used moorings. With a view to relocating them if required. The process involves taking 1500 photos per year; 500 a day on 3 different days to get a clearer idea of what is required.Their budget for yearly maintenance of the moorings is 1.5 million euros. They also receive provincial money as well as money for the sale of flags and from the watersport industry. This year they received 1 million extra to help with items related to cycling and walking routes.
A short one this week. I haven't been able to do much, We did get to Amsterdam again to help Ben get sorted out with moving to his new "room".
He has also finished his last project for University; just has to proof read it - again! and submit it for evaluation.
Love the balloon
ReplyDeleteOn the health issue, I have been on a low dose cholesterol pill for years. Must have done something for me, as I a had a heart stress test in December and all was good. Turn 71 in a few weeks, but think I am good for a few years more ( at least hope so )
