Week 10 The King's Birthday
Another slow week.... as in nothing out of the ordinary.
The weather ranged from fog, rain, more rain and then even a day when Janny's parents could sit outside and enjoy a cuppa in the sun!
As far as work goes, we now have our Work Experience lad for two days a week. It is gratifying to see that he has come along in leaps and bounds in the time he has been with us. I used to worry about having to tell him what to do all the time - that becomes tiring after a while - but now, he is gaining more independence and confidence to go about a few chores without me intervening. We're not sure what the future will bring - he may, in fact, become one of our clients. His teacher at school has also been providing guidance over the years - again good to see "the system" at work - trying to provide a meaningful place in society for one of its own.
When turning 21 is not such a big deal.....
Ben turns 21 soon - on the same day as the King has his 50th birthday! The King has "invited" people having a Jubilee birthday on the same day to share it with him. For some reason 21 is not included - just the 20, 30, 40, etc. years. I think there were 11,000 registrations, but I'm not sure how the "sharing" is going to be organised. 21 is a big deal to us, of course!
Around the farm....
About once a month, we have to do a BIG shopping for out the back. We went to Lidl this time..... but on a Sunday in Oosterwolde. The big shops in Drachten aren't allowed to open on Sundays due to the religious views of the controlling faction in the Local Government. Shopping was always a Friday thing and always hectic trying to get two shopping trolleys full. Sunday was nice and quiet for a change, and BTW this was €250,00.
My workshed is almost tidy.....it's probably 5 or 6 years since the last time I cleaned up!
Also removed all my tools to a sawdust free room at the side.
Some things take a while.... (cont.)
I finally finished the out-of-sight rear section of the chook shed It will also stop the sparrows having a free feed!
Every 2 months or thereabouts, we have the local Country Women's Cooking Club here to use our big kitchen. Last week's offerings......
Should have bought the mole explosives........
Elections coming up...
My special agents in Greensborough and St. Kilda have been sending me information, in English...
Just sayin'...... I haven't seen any overt attempts at voter suppression (one can only ask how can such things be?). In fact, young people are being actively encouraged to "get out and vote". And..... we can still afford to pay our health insurance AND own an iPhone......
Declaration of Good Behaviour
More about Ben.....
He received notification that he achieved 30 "European Credits" for his study in Hong Kong - the credits are a means of evaluating recognition of value across different countries - 30 EC points was the target that he and the University set at the outset.
.... and in preparation for his 2 weeks course in Moscow, he has arranged accommodation at €12/13 per night.
Good to see the Greensborough agent get a mention
